I love this article, it’s really representing what we want to do at How to Make Business Cards.
People are always trying to find new ways of expressing themselves, especially in the world of design. How about a scented personal business card to give to friends and family?
This is the latest in a line of design ideas to differentiate yourself from the pack. If you have a fragrance business or sell soap, these could even be used to represent your company.
To make a scented personal business card place an existing set of cards into a sealed container together with potpourri or an essential oil. The easiest way to add the oil is to add it to a handkerchief and add that into the container. Leave these for a few days until the fragrance has had a chance to permeate the cards. The fragrance won’t last forever, but it will still have a slight aroma even a couple of weeks later.
These would be ideal as already mentioned if you run a business that involves smell of some kind. For example wedding planners can give their cards a scent of flowers or even wedding cake, cosmetic companies or Avon representatives can use their latest fragrance. Have a male and female version of your card and dispense it according to your audience.
Candles are the perfect way to use scented business cards. All you have to do is put some scented candles in with the cards, the same way as above and let the card soak up the fragrance. Any seller of scented candles will be able to demonstrate exactly what they smell like using the cards. The candles will practically sell themselves!
The human sense of smell is the strongest of our senses when it comes to provoking memory. The whole idea of a business card is to make you memorable to the people you meet so adding a scent to them doubles your chances of being remembered. That should surely improve your business prospects.
Scented cards don’t have to be feminine either. You don’t have to just use perfume or scented candles. What about using engine or gun oil? Whisky or aftershave? There are plenty of aromas that appeal to men, and this method can be equally effective targeting them too.
A gun shop or auto shop could use oil scented cards as long as the concentration was right. Oil would permeate the card very effectively, and as long as it didn’t actually touch the cards, they would remain pristine. The smell of oil is the least offensive “manly” smell I can think of that doesn’t stink or won’t go rotten. When they invent beer that doesn’t smell like feet wrapped in bacon after an hour, these scented cards will become a big money spinner.
The idea of scented personal business cards may seem a little offbeat or silly, but appealing to senses other than sight, especially with female clients is a proven winner. Why not make every effort to gain a competitive advantage? If you don’t, your competitor will.
